With regard to enzymes, what can be said to be the relationship between the substrate and the active site?

    Substrates must have a fixed and precise shape for them to fit in with the active site of the corresponding enzyme to undergo conversion into the products of the reaction. Not any substrate can fit into a specific active site and vice versa.
