Denise was measuring the effect of temperature on the amount of dissolved oxygen that water can hold. She hypothesized that as water temperature increases, the amount of oxygen that is dissolved in water increases. Her data are shown in the table below

    Her hypothesis is wrong. Increased temperature causes an increase in kinetic energy. The higher kinetic energy causes more motion in the gas molecules which break intermolecular bonds and escape from solution. Check out the graph below: As the temperature increases, the solubility of a gas decreases
