How does a change from atp to adp provide an organism with energy

    Energy is usually liberated from the ATP molecule to do work in the cell by a reaction that removes one of the phosphate-oxygen groups, leaving adenosine diphosphate (ADP). When the ATP converts to ADP, the ATP is said to be spent. So anytime a chemical bond is broken energy is produced. ATP having a volatile Triphosphate bond allows for the third phosphate molecule to be easily removed and produce energy.
