    Haploid. This means that the cells produced during the second meiotic division contains only one set of chromosomes. During mitotic division, the cells produced are diploid. This means that they contain two sets of chromosome. There is a pair of each chromosome. However, a haploid cell contains only one chromosome out of the pair. The production of haploid cells by the second meiotic division produces gametes or sex cells. It is essential that gametes have only one set of chromosomes since gametes combine during sexual reproduction. It then allows for the correct two sets of chromosomes to be found in the offspring.
