What is an operon, its function, and in what type of organism are operons found?

    Am operon is a set of genes transcribed under the control of an operator gene. More specifically, anoperon is a segment of DNA containing adjacent genes. Operons are found in prokaryotes (bacteria and archaea), and (in rare cases) in eukaryotes. Hope this answers the question.
