What is the connection between density and the earth's structure

The most dense part of the earth is the core (part solid part molten). The least dense is the crust. The reason for this is because when the earth first started to form, the most dense particles (Fe, Ni) started to mold together and then the lesser dense (Mg silicates) and the least dense made up the crust.
