    One crucial and fundamental purpose and function that ATP molecules have for both plant and animal cells, is to act as a readily available energy containing molecule that is used in most all biological processes. ATP production occurs within the mitochondria of plant and animal cells and is needed for sustaining allowing other organelles in a particular cell to carry on their energy requiring processes.
