    Cross the smooth coat with a rough coat guinea pig

    Genotype of rough coat will be ss (homozygous recessive)

    If the genotype of smooth coat is SS (purebred), then;

    cross: SS x ss = All offsprings will be smooth coat with genotype Ss

    If the genotype of smooth coat is Ss (hybrid), then

    cross: Ss x ss = Ss, Ss, ss and ss. 50% of the offspring will be smooth coat and 50% of the offspring will be rough coat.

    Hence, by doing this cross test, one can identify whether the guinea pig is purebred or a hybrid.
