    C. Single events or several causes working together to produce extinction in a short period is referred to as mass extinction.

Mass extinction can be well-explained by destruction of forests, mountains and bodies of water. Such rapid and large-scale destruction of habitats leads to sudden extinction of species and is known as mass extinction.
