    'Inheritance of acquired characteristics'. This is because he believed that traits an organism gained during it's lifetime (something not related to it's genes) could be passed on to offspring. E. g. If a giraffe stretched it's neck slightly by stretching to reach leaves for many years, Lamark believed the offspring may have longer necks.
