    I'd say C, because the experiment would consist of cutting the tall plant to see if the trait of now being short (which is actually not a trait, you can't change genes like that, cutting the plant does not alter DNA or genes in any way.). So that would result in controlling for the plant's experiences before pollination. (does that make sense?) Basically they're testing for the plant's ability to pass on its life experiences to its offsprings.
