Which statement best explains why water is known as the universal solvent?

    It is known as a universal solvent because of the vast number of compounds that dissolve in water completely. This however goes for destilated water which has been cleansed from all waste and the water has been purified to be pure H2O. This means there's no metals or trace compounds inside.
