Where is the kinetochore in a chromosome

Kinetochore is simply another name for centromere. It is specialized structure on the chromosome, appearing during cell division where the two chromatids are held together and form an X shape.

It may be located almost at the center of the chromosome or in various positions along the chromosome. It forms a constriction that can be seen when observed under a microscope.

If approximately at the center, it is called metacentric, if near the end of the chromosome it is called acrocentric, and if at the very end of the chromosome it is called telocentric.
