How and why do planets rotate around the sun? What would happen if planets wouldn't rotate but orbit the sun?

    If planets did not rotate around the sun then on half of the planets would be day all year round and the other half would be night all year round

    Planets rotate around the sun so each planet gets enough heat and it isn't freezing cold.
