A disaccharide is produced by joining 2 monosaccharide (single sugar) units. For the formation of maltose, 2 glucose molecules are combined using a condensation reaction, with the removal of water.

    alpha-D-glucose + alpha-D-glucose = Maltose + H2O

Hope this answers the question. Have a nice day.
