A reflex arc is a neural pathway that controls a reflex action. In higher animals, most sensory neurons do not pass directly into the brain, but synapse in the spinal cord.

An reflec arc pathway is the shortest pathway taken by the reflex action. The route of the reflec arc originates from the receptors where it receives the stimulus and generate nerve impulses and send them to the sensory neurones, and then send nerve impulses across synapses to the relay neurone in the CNS and then across synapses to the motor neurones and then to the effectors. This applies to both cranial and spinal reflexes.

If it is cranial reflex, replace CNS with Brain.

If it is spinal reflex, replace CNS with spinal cord.
