Robert Hooke first used the term cell in 1665. However, nearly 200 years passed before scientists developed the cell theory. Why did it take so long between the first use of the term cell and the development of the cell theory?

    I think it took nearly 200 years because they had to prove the properties of cells and that took a very smart and committed group of people to do this so I took that nearly 200 years for someone to think about creating the cell theory ... this is just my thought.
