This CO2 adds to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and is causing global warming. Fossil fuel is burnt in any transport using the combustion engine, like cars and trucks. Fossil fuel is also burnt in electricity power stations to generate electricity. When you burn fossil fuels it releases mostly CO2 (carbon dioxide) This traps the heat that reaches the earth from the sun. That causes the greenhouse affect. Burning fossil fuels also release Sulphur dioxide and various nitrogen oxide. When these gases mix with clouds they form dilute sulphuric acid and dilute nitric acid. That falls as acid rain.
