Why might it be beneficial to have dead skin cells on the outermost layer of the epidermis?

    The outermost layer of the skin interacts with the outside environment. by eliminating dead skin cells to the outermost layer of the epidermis, the inactive cells act as protection against loss of vital fluids and limit asorbtion of fluids to the underlying layers of skin.
