The germ line cells are super important, as they are the only way for the organism to pass on its genetic material to the next generation! During development, there are lots of chemical signals flying around the embryo, telling bits of it to become a head, and become a tail, and become a left kidney, and it is important to make sure that the germ line cells are completely protected from this.
