There are many responsibilities included in having a checking account. One must be able to maintain a checkbook and know how to balance it. That way you always know where your money is going how much you have available to spend. On must be responsible enough to know what is important to spend money on so that you don't overspend or overdraft which is taking money out of the account that's not there. Doing this will produce overdraft fees which you don't want. A person is usually responsible enough to open a checking account when they have their first job. This way they can monitor how much money is going in from their paycheck and they can learn to budget and save. And because they had to work for the money that is in the account, they learn the value of a dollar.
