Explain the role of contingency planning in health care. Should every health care organization formulate contingency plans? Why, or why not?

    Anything that occurs outside the normal that has the capacity to affect the ability of an organization to operate is known as a contingency. Contingency planning deals with the identification and continuous monitoring of risks and hazards in order to inform for proper planning and implementation for risk mitigation and response. The role of contingency planning in healthcare is to reduce the probable health consequence of threats and stay ready to respond in case of an emergency. A contingency plan plays the role of ensuring that any injury, damage, property loss, personnel loss and data are prevented and controlled. A contingency plan will also ensure that regardless of the situation, key operations would not cease in healthcare. Every healthcare organization must create a contingency plan else it stands a big risk of losing property, lives, data, and others in the event of an unexpected incident.
