Imagine you're a very rich person and want to make more money. You buy an old and unwanted appartment somewhere in a rather abandoned and a low-cost urban neighborhood.
Then you reconstruct, renovate, and tidy up this appartment, essentially making it more appealing to new customers and increasing its price tag compared to the one for which you have bought it.
That is gentrification basically - when you buy an old and unwanted appartment/house and renovate it to increase its market value.
