Why are the planets closest to the sun composed of mostly rock while those further away are composed mostly of gas and ice?

    Because with the planets that are close to the sun are heating up however the plants that are far away are made out of gas and ice because they are further away from the sun, the further away the heat is the colder the planet gets.
