The final answer should contain atleast 3 significant figures.

    I. E: 1.00246 + 0.2400 = 1.24246

We'll keep it to 3 significant figures: 1.24

Seeing as though 0.2400 has 4 sig figs and 1.00246 has 6 ... you go with the smallest amount of sig figs (4). Once you add it all up the answer is 1.2425 but that has 5 sig figs. So we need to round. The answer would then be 1.243
