Upon the addition of hcl to zinc, explain why a lit bunsen burner should not be in the fume hood

    HCl reacts with Zn to produce ZnCl2 and hydrogen gas. This reaction is very exothermic. Also it releases hydrogen gas which is very flammable. Hydrogen gas is very flammable and yields explosive mixtures with air and oxygen. The explosion of the mixture of hydrogen and oxygen is quite loud.
