What law explains the relationships between different chemical compounds that contain only the elements carbon and oxygen?

    I believe the answer in here would be the law of multiple proportions. The law states that whenever the same two elements merge to create more than one compound, the different masses of one element that merge with the same mass of the other element have a ratio that is in whole numbers.
