What is the lewis structure of the covalent compound that contains one nitrogen atom, one hydrogen atom, and one carbon atom? to add lone pairs, be sure to click the button lone-pair button before clicking on the molecule to add the lone pairs. use a line to connect each atom and indicate a bond. draw the molecule by placing atoms on the grid and connecting them with bonds. include all lone pairs of electrons?

    Lewis Structures can be drawn by following steps,

    Add number of valence electrons of all atoms present in compound.

    H = 1

    C = 4

    N = 5

    Total = 10

    Secondly,

    Draw Carbon as a central atom and connect Hydrogen and Nitrogen with Carbon by a single bond as shown in structure 1, Now, subtract 2 electrons per bond for each bond from total valence electrons,

    10 - 4 = 6

    Now, assign these 6 electrons to atoms, starting from most electronegative, and you can assign maximum 6 electron to terminal atom, so that it has a complete octet, in this case we will assign all electrons to N as shown in 2.

    At last, move electrons from N to C to complete the octet of carbon (structure 3).
