Why is it important for a measurement system to have an international standard for each unit?

    If everyone had a different system to measure things, data wouldn't be shared very easily. In order to collaborate, people would have to learn each other's system to understand what they're talking about, which would probably take a while. Collaborators would eventually have to come up with a regular system of measurement to get anything done.
