Why are ionic bonds stronger than covalent bonds?

    This is because ionic bonds are formed by the attraction of oppositely charged ions and hence considerable amount of energy is required to break the strong inter-ionic attraction and hence it is stronger.

    Covalent bonds are formed by sharing of electrons and are hence relatively weaker than ionic bonds
