Extraction is usually used in the pre-purification because you are able to separate the bulk of the components of the mixtures. It means that it will be much more cost-effective to execute extraction in the beginning of the process. It depends on the physical properties of miscibility of the solute and solvent in the mixture to the extraction solvent.
