Suppose a lab group reports a percent yield of sand of 105%. is it really possible to collect more sand than was originally present? what is a possible explanation for the "extra" product? do not consider calculation mistakes; think about the procedure used.

    Percent yield above 100% is not possible as you can create mass. One of possible reason is that there is some gas in the air that used for the reaction. Most of the weight calculated is not the total weight of the system so the gas is not calculated So when gas used, you don't know how much gas used.

    If the some of the gas become solid and none of the used ingredients become gas, the total weight might seem to be increased.
