How do mechanical and chemical digestion work together to break down food

Mechanical digestion begins in the mouth as the food is being broken down by chewing, and then it goes down the stomach through the esophagus which then goes to the stomach with breaks down the food chemically into simpler nutrients which can then be used by cells.
