Bond energy which is also known as bond enthapy is the average value of the gas phase bond dissociation energy usually at 298k for all bond of the same type within the same chemical species.

water has two H-O bond that is O-H-O

bonb energy for H-O is 464k/j

    therefore o-H-O = 2 x464 = 928 kj/mol

since bond breaking process is exothermic the bond energy = - 928 kj/mol
