Since carbon has 6 electrons, its electronic configuration would be 1s²2s²2p². Acetylene is an alkyne, meaning it consist of a triple bond. An alkyne's general formula is CₓHₓ. Each single bond between C atoms consist of 2 electrons. So, it follows that one triple bond would consist of three pairs of electrons binded. Thus, each electron of the carbon atom take part in the bonding. The overlap would include the 1s, 2s and 2p orbitals.
