Why would gene therapy fail to cure illnesses caused by bacteria

    Gene therapy is only effective against genetic disorders such as autoimmune diseases or some cancers. Bacteria are pathogens that independently attack and infect the body, modifying the genes of the host will not be effective in an immune response. Bacteria must be destroyed via a natural immune response or antibiotics.
