The half-life of carbon-14 is 5730 years. a sample is found to have one-eighth the original amount of carbon-14 in it. how old is the sample?

    Well first you have to find how many half-lifes there are. half of 1 is 1/2 half of that is 1/4 and half of that is 1/8. so it has 3 half-lifes, so multply 5730 by 3 and you have your answer, which is 17,190 years old
