    A. The attraction of ions due to the transfer of valence electrons.

    Explanation:

Ionic Bond is formed due to attraction between Cation and an Anion. The formation of Cation takes place when an atom (mainly Metal) looses electron (s). While an Anion is formed when an atom (mainly Non-Metal) accepts or gain electron (s).

    Example:

    Na + Cl → Na⁺ + Cl⁻ → NaCl

In Above reaction the valence electron of Sodium (2s¹→2s⁰ + e⁻) is transferred to the Valence Shell of Chlorine (3p⁵ + e⁻ →3p⁶) resulting in the formation of Na⁺ and Cl⁻. These two oppositively charge Ions attract each other and form Ionic Bond.
