What state must a substance be in order to analyze it using uv vis spectroscopy?

    Liquid state must be the state of the substance in order to be analyzed by using uv-vis spectroscopy although gas phase measurements can be made using long path gas-tight cells. Absorption measures transitions from the ground state to the excited state.
