    Empirical formula is Fe₂O₃.

    Explanation:

    Empirical formula:

It is the simplest formula gives the ratio of atoms of different elements in small whole number.

    Given dа ta:

    Mass of iron = 4.166 g

    Mass of oxygen = 1.803 g

    Empirical formula = ?

    Solution:

    Number of gram atoms of Fe = 4.166 / 55.845 = 0.075

    Number of gram atoms of O = 1.803 / 15.999 = 0.113

    Atomic ratio:

    Fe : O

    0.075/0.075 : 0.113/0.075

    1 : 1.5

    Fe : O = 1 : 1.5

    Fe : O = 2 (1 : 1.5)

    Empirical formula is Fe₂O₃.
