Why do the Sun and Moon look redder when they are closer to the horizon (that is, "why are sunsets red") ?

    because the sun rays get scattered by gas particles of our atmosphere.

    Explanation:

    the blue rays get scattered easily because they cover very long distance to reach our eyes. so they make a blue sky. but red rays are keast scattered and thus when contacting the earth atmosphere they make red sunrise and sunsets.
