How is an element different than a compound? Give an example of each

    A compound contains atoms of different elements chemically combined together in a fixed ratio. An element is a pure chemical substance made of same type of atom.

    compound is made up of 2 or more elements, while element is just pure element

    a simple example would be that 2 is an element while 2+3 is a compound

    or O (oxygen) is an element while CO2 (carbon dioxide) is a compound
