Can someone tell me a simple way to define bases and acids.

    There are three different acid and base definitions.

    Arrhenius Acid: H + in H20

    Arrhenius Base: OH - in H20

    Bronsted - Lowery Acid: H + donor

    Bronsted - Lowery Base: Accepts H+

    Lewis Acid: Accepts electron pairs

    Lewis Base: Electron pair donor

    The Lewis definition is the most common because it encompasses all acids and bases.
