Solids like silver chloride (AgCl) dissolve in water according to the temperature and solubility (g/L or mg/L). If the solubility of AgCl at 25 °C is 2.5 g AgCl (s) in 1.3 x 103 L of water, what mass (in milligrams) of AgCl will dissolve in 1.0 L of water at the same temperature?

    This is a simple rule of three, the only conversion that you need to do is from grams into milligrams = 2.5 g = 2500 mg.

    Also remember to convert the scientific notation of liters of water = 1.3 x103 L = 13000 L

    So, with this information, you can do the mathematical calculation.

    2500 mg - 1300 L water

    X - 1 L

    X = (1 x 2500) / 1300

    X = 1.92 mg
