    Solubility is determined by the principle, "like dissolves like".

    i. e., if a compound is polar then it will dissolve in a polar compound only, and

    if a compound is non - polar then it will dissolve in a non - polar compound only.

    Ionic compound, are polar in nature, i. e., have a positive and negative charge, polar solution can only dissolve in polar,

    As, there will be interaction between the opposite charge, and hence will dissolve.

    And, in case of a polar and non polar solution, there won't be any interaction, and hence will not dissolve.
