When electrons are shared unequally between toms

    Polar covalent bond.

The compound KI is held together by

    Ionic bond

Result in not net charge by

    Non-polar covalent bond.

Result in partial charges on atoms

    Polar covalent bond.

Forms when electrons are shared equally between atoms.

    Non - polar covalent bond

Forms when there is a complete transfer of one or more electrons.

    Ionic bond.

When electrons are completely transfer from one to another atom ionic bonds are formed. For example,

potassium has one valance electron and iodine have 7. To complete the octet by both atoms potassium lose its one electron and iodine accept it. Thus ionic bond is created between both atoms.

While covalent bonds are formed by the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. When the electronrgativity difference is greater than 0.4 the polar covalent bonds are formed. The more eletronegative atom thus create partial negative and less eletronegative atom create partial positive charge and polar covalent bond is formed. When electronegativity difference is between 0-0.4 between the atom that shared the electron pairs, the non polar covalent bonds are formed.
