Suppose a bag of ice (450g) at 0.0°C sat on a counter and began to melt to liquid water. How much energy must be absorbed by the ice if 2/3 of it melted

    Mass of ice = 450 g

    Temperature = 0.0 °C

    Mass of ice melted = 2/3 part g 450 g

    Energy required = ?

    Solution:

    Mass of ice melted = 2/3*450 g

    Mass of ice melted = 300 g

    Heat of fusion = 334 j

    Heat absorbed by 300 g:

    300 g * 334 j / 1 g

    100200 j
