Calculate the diffusive force (J) experienced by K + in a cell where the concentration gradient is 35 mM, the membrane width is 1 cm, solubility of K + across the membrane is 1 and the diffusive area (# of channels available) is 10. Assume that the cell is at 1 degree Celsius

    Explanation:

    J = [ (C1 - C2) * TSA] / ΔX

    ∴ C1 - C2 = 35 mM = 0.035 mol/L

    ∴ ΔX = 1 cm

    ∴ S = 1 mol/L

    ∴ A = 10cm²

    ∴ T = 1°C = 274 K

    ⇒ J = (0.035 mol/L * 274K * 1 mol/L * 10 cm²) / 1 cm

    ⇒ J = 95.9 mol². K. cm / L²
