At a certain temperature this reaction follows second-order kinetics with a rate constant of 14.1 M-1s-1 : 2SO3g - -> 2SO2g + O2g Suppose a vessel contains SO3 at a concentration of 1.44M. Calculate the concentration of SO3 in the vessel 0.240 seconds later. You may assume no other reaction is important.

    0.245M

    Explanation:

    2SO3g - -> 2SO2g + O2g

    Rate Constant, k = 14.1 M-1s-1

    Initial Concentration, Ao = 1.44M

    Final Concentration, A = ?

    time = 0.240s

    The integrated rate law for second order reactions relating these parameters is given as;

    1 / [A] = kt + 1 / [A]o

    1 / [A] = (14.1 * 0.240) + 1 / 1.44

    1 / [A] = 3.384 + 0.694 = 4.078

    [A] = 1 / 4.078 = 0.245M
