Calculate the wavelength of light emitted when an electron in a hydrogen atom makes each transition [ (a) or (b) and (c) or (d) ] and indicate the region of the electromagnetic spectrum (infrared, visible, ultraviolet, etc.) where the light is found. a) n = 2 → n = 1; b) n = 3 → n = 1; c) n = 4 → n = 2; d) n = 5 → n = 2.     a) wavenumber = RH[1/n1^2 - 1/n2^2]

    (1/x) = 109677 (1/1^2 - 1/2^2)

    x = wavelength = 1.2157*10^-5 cm = 1.2157*10^-7 m

    b) (1/x) = 109677 (1/1^2 - 1/3^2)

    x = wavelength = 1.026*10^-5 cm = 1.026*10^-7 m

    c)

    (1/x) = 109677 (1/2^2 - 1/4^2)

    x = wavelength = 4.86*10^-5 cm = 4.86*10^-7 m

    d)

    (1/x) = 109677 (1/2^2 - 1/5^2)

    x = wavelength = 4.34*10^-5 cm = 4.34*10^-7 m
